One of my pasque flowers has decided to go for round 2

such strong colours!

The wild carrot is budding. My first time of growing.



I love the allium buds. My fav stage for these, I think

Wild carrot has to be my favourite umbellifer. It's so pretty and delicate, and with wonderful seed heads too.

The wild carrot looks like it was designed by William Morris!

I have been away a few days. Here's the first Rosa rugosa and a pic of Scilla

The first R. Lady Hillingdon bloom. New to me. Opening yellower than I expected. It may mellow towards cream.

A true blast of sunshine. Very welcome.

It does totally shine out in the garden like a beacon - one shining rose in a see of green

Three-cornered Garlic. Currently growing in a roadside verge but will have originated from a nearby garden. 

Gosh - such clarity! Both flower heads in perfect focus!

That's an intriguing composition on the top shot, Anna. I've got it so ingrained in me that things need to face into the frame but in this case facing out works, it makes the flower seem sadder, or wanting to hide. I like it.

And yes, beautiful shot LS, although I think I'd have been tempted to try and cover the pale patches in the background. Sorry, I have a thing about backgrounds!

I like the backlighting of the rose and the eucalyptus leaves around it. It was on a windowsill crammed with cuttings which is why the rose is in an odd position. I didn't compose it.

Accidental or not, I still like it!

I'm getting my head around processing with GIMP, it'll take a while and in the meantime there are photos to be taken!

what is GIMP?

GIMP's a free alternative to Photoshop. I thought I'd have to ditch PS Elements to process as I'm used to on my new camera but I've just cracked it! Phew. GIMP goes in the bin, I'm so relieved.

Thanks. Ha  - yes it did cross my mind to try using the spot-healing brush but unfortunately the offending pale patches (lichen on the wall behind) went right upto the garlic flowers so it would have been tricky. You're not alone in having a thing about backgrounds Liz. I can spend ages wandering up & down choosing which flower to shoot and from which angle, and then often don't bother at all. The stem of that garlic flower was being bent away (by my wife) from an even more distracting background.

I was very taken with this plant and talked about getting some - until I found out it's an absolute thug and very difficult to get rid of.

Fair enough Especially when I've just noticed some really irritating bits sticking up on that last pasque flower shot of mine.
