Flowers April 24
Tue Apr 02, 2024 6:26 pm
Get the cameras ready, April flowers will soon be here! For the time being, it's mostly just the promise of buds
I have a gorgeous clematis (unknown what), just itching to get going
and the apple trees are not far off (it does make life easier when they're on dwarf rootstock)
The only actual flowers to add to the previous are the first geraniums

Wildflower or garden flower? We have a self seeded hedge that has taken over from where a privet is gradually dying off. There are ash, holly, beech and wild cherry, all happily creating something much more interesting and wildlife friendly. This is the wild cherry
And a harvest to come - gooseberry
One early flower I find impossible to photograph, partly because is a bit of a messy one and also because I have a flea beetle problem and they love the wallflowers. The petals a chewed to bits as soon as they appear. It's a great splash of colour early in the season, though.
Erysimum cheiri

Both beautiful, but the second in particular. It could be a painting.

Real toffees. I do find that I love colours that are right on the edge between colours. The space between dark raspberry, red, pink, purple - none of those and hard to describe. Or the space between apricot, buff, orange, toffee, coffee and cream, but that is none of those quite. It makes my brain tingle nicely.

I think I have quite a bit of synesthesia in many different ways.

Now you've really got me looking at tulips. I adore your Bronze Charm in particular. And the focus on the edges of the top shot in the last batch makes it very special.

I've been looking at this one a lot. I love the curlicue forelock on this one and the mini-curl on the right. It's funny how the small details draw us in and a pic that I want to look at.
These details are certainly things I never see in the flowers "in the flesh". For me, it's only by spending ages with a photo and looking closely - for fiddling or framing etc - that I spend enough time with one flower/image to see very much at all. Kind of sad, but also why I love photography - because it literally helps me see. It's why something like Instagram does my head - there's just waaaay too much visual information. I feel like my head will explode and my eye balls melt. Good time with one ot two photos a day is enough for me (little petal that I am). Lol. That goes for poetry, films, art - all sorts. I can handle one poem at a time (or even one line to sit with); one good film a week to digest. Galleries make my head hurt these days.

Yes indeed. Photography adds another dimension to the garden. Just eyeing up potential shots makes me appreciate things more even if I don't or can't take the shot.
And that's a lovely image Anna.

Same flowers maybe, but different so always good. It's funny, this feeling of 'I've already done that one', as if we're limited to one go at each flower. We should celebrate them time and time again.
